A woman from my old air hostessing life said to me – “I just don’t GET meditation.” It just made no sense to her at all. On reflection, I guess she meant she couldn’t understand why you would want to stop thinking. Perhaps for her, thinking is what keeps everything in order, under control, organized, time efficient. She may have wondered why you would want to turn that off.
She didn’t realize that something like 98% of all thought is repetitive! That is, all that history, shopping lists, to do lists, and opinions going over and over again in your head. Not only that, many of our thoughts can be negative, unhelpful and self critical. As well as that, our thoughts are what create worry, anxiety and stress in our body.
So. Spending some time without all that going on, can only be good for us.

The mind is a great tool for helping with the practical aspects of life, but does become a little boring if you actually listen to it droning on! Or can seem like the nastiest bully in school when it gets going about all your faults. And can spin you into a panic attack as quick as a wink.
This hostess may have felt that the idea of having any sort of control over her thoughts was just so impossible that meditation made no sense. That the frantic buzzing noise of her thoughts had a ‘mind of their own’. And sometimes it does seem almost impossible to slow down, or control your thinking. But it can be done!
That is where the bite sized 3 minute meditation comes in! It is quick and easy, giving you a small taste of the quiet, and calm mind.
The reason I want to bring meditation to your life is to increase happiness for you -that is what this site is all about! Many people meditate to become calmer and more relaxed – and those things will happen if you meditate. But meditation is a tool you can use – and I will point our ways throughout this site – to empower those things you want, help clear away negativity and blockages that hold you in an unhappy place, help you to learn ways to cope when things go wrong, and build love, confidence and power in yourself.
Meditation is a powerful gift to give yourself and a magic tool that will increase your chances at greater happiness enormously.
I want to give you a taste of the wonderful benefits of meditation and show you how easy it can be, with this 3 minute meditation – what could be easier?
The 3 Minute Meditation.

Find a pleasant, quiet, private place to meditate. You can meditate on the floor, bed, couch, or chair. Use a small cushion or pillow, and sit the back of your bottom on that, then cross your legs in front of you (or sit on a chair, with feet flat on the floor), place your hands lightly together in your lap. Try to keep your back straight. Close your eyes.
Then: – think to yourself, “I give this time to myself” and then take three deep breaths, and make sure the air goes right down to your stomach. Like big sighs. Let the air gently out through your nose.
Think of someone or some being your love. Breath in deeply to your chest, and feel love swelling in your heart with the love you feel for this person, being or nature. Spend more time (1 minte) with the love swelling in your heart, and chest. As you breath in deeply feel the love grow in your chest. Try to keep focused on that feeling of love you feel.
Now breath out deeply, sending out love to that special person or being. Shower love from your heart over them. Then shower love on the whole world – sending out love. Notice how full of love you feel sending it out. The more you give, the more you receive.
Slow your breathing now. Notice your breath coming in and out for a few seconds. Then open your eyes. Thank yourself for giving yourself this time. Sit for a moment and enjoy the feeling of love and calm after this little meditation.
Now tidy away anything you have used or moved for the meditation.
If your mind wonders off, don’t get upset or annoyed with yourself. It takes time and patience to keep focused. Just when you notice that you are not working with the love thoughts, bring your mind back again. This meditation will work, even if you have to bring your thoughts back several times to start with.
Exercise: Do this for 7 days. You can down load the meditation here for your computer to guide you through it if you prefer. You may want to do the Happiness Survey before you start the week, then do it again after, to see if the week of mini meditation has made any difference to your happiness level.
Don’t forget to add any comments. Let me know if you started to look forward to your three minutes meditation. Did you start to run over the time and find yourself staying with the love for longer than 3 minutes? Did you feel differently in the day? Did anything change with your love person or being?
I’m dying to hear the results!
